Arseniy Yatseniuk, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, reckons on the support of the European Parliament in conclusion of the Agreement on Association of Ukraine and the European Union.     

 

He stated the aforementioned at the meeting with Adrian Severin, Co-Chairman of the Commission on Parliamentary Cooperation between Ukraine and the EU, held on Thursday, 2 October. Adrian Severin represents the European Parliament among the leaders of the Commission on Parliamentary Cooperation.

 

According to A.Yatseniuk, the Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union requires serious work, and "it is necessary to focus on the contents of the Agreement". 

 

Commenting upon the importance of the document in question, A.Yatseniuk underscored: "This is a road map that can bring Ukraine closer to the EU as regards economic and political issues".    

 

He also stated that apart from the leaders of Ukrainian State, more than 60 per cent of Ukrainian citizens upheld orientation of Ukraine for joining the EU.    

 

Dwelling upon the political situation in the country, A.Yatseniuk assured his interlocutor that Ukraine adhered only to democratic way, and political crisis was to be settled only by constitutional methods.

 

In his turn, A.Severin informed the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine that the European Union was willing "to open the doors of the EU more widely for Ukraine" and adhered to such a strategy.      

 

On behalf of the members of the European Parliament, A.Severin expressed his concern with current processes in Ukraine.

 

In the course of the meeting, the Parties also discussed a wide range of issues that constitute mutual interest for both Parties.
